2.1. PVBS Extension for Visual Studio Code

Starting with V12.14, there is a PVBS extension for Visual Studio Code (replacing pvbscompiler.exe).[5]

What the extension can do:

  • Open, edit, and save vbs, vbb, and vpk files; vpk packages are mounted as virtual workspace folders containing their vbb members. The extension is automatically detected and launched when such a file is opened.

  • Syntax highlighting for VBS and VBB, syntax checking upon saving (saving is always allowed, even if there are errors); findings are displayed in the "Problems" tab.

  • Full-featured debugger: F5/F10/F11, breakpoints (including in vpk members), threads, scopes, view and set variables, variable tooltips and Watch tab, exception filters for caught/uncaught unhandled exceptions, Pause (F6), Break All, Autoattach to all running clients including a status bar button, “Set Next Statement ”.

  • Properties widget for vbb files with compiler feature version and encryption version

  • Two output channels (normal and debug), settings page including the path to the C++ adapter, license verification with a license manager dialog if the verification fails.

Details on installation/configuration and the debugger can be found in the internal manual in the chapter "PVBS Extension for Visual Studio Code."
