1.6.1.  Insert from the standard and purchased parts library via "PARTdataManager"

PARTdataManager (Fig. exemplary from NX)

PARTdataManager (Fig. exemplary from NX)

The following describes how to insert a part from PARTdataManager into your 3D CAD system.

[Note]Note

This is the description of the default procedure.

For some CAD systems you can find further information in the CAD specific chapter.

[Note]Note

3Dfindit offers automatic placement methods for certain parts such as screws.

  1. In the 3Dfindit menu, click PARTdataManager or Insert Model [Insert model] .

-> The view changes to PARTdataManager.

  2. Select the desired component in the part selection [Part selection]. [8]

  3. Specify the desired characteristic in the parts view [Part view].

PARTdataManager - Parts view [Part view]

PARTdataManager - Parts view [Part view]

  4. Click on .[9]-> The display returns to the CAD system.

If you performed a search, you can directly export from the search results.

-> The view switches back to the CAD system.

  5. The 3Dfindit placement dialog appears in the CAD system.

    [Note]Note

The placement dialog is available for the interfaces of Inventor, Creo Parametric, Solid Edge, SolidWorks and NX. For other CAD systems, you carry out the placement using the standard methods of your CAD system.

    Select placement strategy

    Select placement strategy

  6. Select a placement method:

    1. CAD system (standard CAD placement method)

      [Note]Note

This placement method is always available.

    2. In cylinder bore [In Cylinder] (3Dfindit placement method)

e.g. for placement of bolts, but also for bearing on shafts

Create automatic references to place a body in a cylinder hole.

For details, see Section 1.6.1.2, “ "In cylinder bore " ”.

    3. On surface (3Dfindit placement method)

Create mates for placement on planar face

For details, see Section 1.6.1.3, “ "On surface " ”.

    4. Touching surfaces [Touching Surfaces] (3Dfindit placement method)

e.g. for placement of countersunk screws

      Placement with coincident faces

For details, see Section 1.6.1.4, “ "Surfaces in contact " ”.

    [Note]Note

For placement methods that are not available, the corresponding buttons are hidden. Several methods are available, particularly for screw fittings.

    [Note]Note

CAD-specific dialogs may be displayed. Make the corresponding entries.

-> The following buttons are now displayed in the placement dialog:

Open: The part is opened in a separate CAD window.
Place multiple times [Place multiple] (and leave dialog open)
    Place once (and close dialog)
    Close dialog (without placement)

Merfaches Place [Multiple Placements]: Activating the checkbox allows direct, repeated placement in the CAD, without having to Multiple button place use [Place multiple]. [10]

    [Note]Note

    Background information:

The placement methods available in particular depend on the part type.

Not all parts in the standard catalog have all the attributes needed for additional PARTsolutions intelligent placement methods. The method "Default placement" is always available. Currently the CAD interfaces enable the additional intelligent placement methods for rotationally symmetric parts such as bolts, nuts, rings and bearings for example.

The following figure gives an overview about the parts which enable intelligent placement in addition.

[8] You can find a detailed description of PARTdataManager at Section 2.1, “ PARTdataManager ”.

[9] You can also export the component using "Export to file [Export in file] ". Detailed information on this can be found under Section 2.1.9, “ Export to various file formats (without 3Dfindit interface) ”.

[10] For certain CAD systems, the Feature available on all placement methods, only on others in the standard CAD placement method. If the method does not lead to is available, then the checkbox appears greyed out.
