Have you already modeled components with eCATALOGsolutions in previous versions? Then you will immediately notice a fundamental innovation. With V11, the PARTeditor module has been integrated into the PARTdesigner module. All PARTeditor functions are now available in PARTdesigner so that annoying switching between different work surfaces is no longer necessary. You already know comfortable working with docking windows, which you can adjust in size and position, from PARTdataManager. This functionality is now also available in the PARTdesigner is now also available. Even if you are now working in a single interface - which is much more convenient - you should be aware of the following facts: A parametrically structured 3D model is created. This data is also saved in the 3db file type. And a feature table is created, the values of which are used to fill the parametric 3D model. The table data is still saved in the tab or tac file type. In the Variable Manager there is a parameter Storage location [Save location] with the following list field options:
Only in geometry -> data storage in 3db file
Only in table -> data storage in tab/tac file
In geometry and table -> data storage both in 3db file and in tab/ tac file
Depending on which mode you select before clicking Apply [Commit], the data is saved in the corresponding file type or in both. When creating a model, you always have the option of creating the model first
[Designer mode [Designer mode] ] (with fixed values or a single "prototype" table row) or the characteristic attribute table first
[Table mode [Table mode] ]. Both
methods have their specific advantages and disadvantages:
Create model first: With the "Only in geometry [Only in geometry] " storage location [Save location], you can easily access the 3D object without further specification options and without the option of creating feature algorithms or value ranges. This procedure is suitable for simple components or for demonstration purposes. A small
example on this can be found under Section 7.4, “Create 3D model: Small example from A to
Z
”. You can also reproduce the "Cap nut" training example in full with the "Only in geometry [Only in geometry] " option. See eCATALOGsolutions Training manual.
First create a table: This procedure is usually preferred when creating complex components. With the "In table only [Only in table] " or "In geometry and table [In geometry and table] " storage location [Save location], you also have the option of creating value range variables [Value range variables] and characteristic algorithms [Attribute algorithms]. A small
example on this can be found under Section 7.5, “Create table: Small example from A to Z
”.
Depending on the application, you can use mathematical functions
in the sketch (saved in the 3db file) or in feature algorithms (saved in the tab/tac file). Explanations on this can be found under
Section 7.8.11.2, “Use mathematical function in sketch or feature algorithm?”. Please
regard possible differences in syntax. See Section 14.1, “PARTdesigner-Expressions
” and
Section 7.8.12.6, “Mathematical functions (feature algorithm )
”.
