2.7.3.8.1. Creating and Renaming Tree Nodes

Purpose

You can create an empty slot in the hierarchy for later assignment or give an existing node (other than the root) a name of your choice. These actions change the tree structure or the displayed label, but do not move any parts.

Requirements

  • Log in using clustering-view and clustering-edit.

  • Open a completed clustering for which the cluster tree is available .

  • Select an inner node or a blank leaf if you need a new child node.

Procedure

Open the node's context menu and click "New" [1] to create a child node at the selected location. In the dialog box, enter a meaningful cluster name. A new node is initially empty and is therefore suitable for later assignment without changing the current part affiliation.

The node's context menu provides the structure actions for the selected node. For the root node, "New" is the only structure action.

Enter a name in the dialog box [1]. If the parent node has already been specified, the dialog box will retain this entry. If a selection list for the parent node is displayed, select only a node that can contain child nodes [2]. A filled sheet is not suitable as a parent node.

The dialog box prompts you to enter a name and select an appropriate parent node before a new empty item is added to the hierarchy.

Use "Rename" to change the displayed name of a node (except for the root). After successfully renaming, the saved result is updated. A custom, non-empty name appears in the cluster tree, on the associated cluster map (if displayed), and in the hierarchy graph in italics; automatically generated names remain as is.

The updated tree displays the user-assigned node name as a clearly manual label.

Options and Decisions in Operations

Creating and Renaming Nodes – Actions and Dialog Boxes

Control element or State

Operating Instructions

"Actions"

Opens the operations available for this tree node. The content depends on whether the node is the root, an internal node, an empty leaf, or a non-empty leaf.

"New"

Adds an empty child node under an appropriate parent node. Use this action to reserve a place in the structure before assigning elements to it.

"Cluster name"

Required field for a new node. Only spaces are not valid values. Choose a concise name that distinguishes this location from automatically generated names .

"Parent node"

Available if the operation allows the selection of a parent node. Internal nodes and empty leaves can contain child nodes, but filled leaves cannot.

"Create"

Saves the named empty child node. Remains unavailable until a valid name is entered and the tree is in a usable state.

"Rename"

Replaces the displayed name of a node (except the root). Use this action when you want to replace a generated label with a name of your choice .

"Cancel"

Closes the creation dialog without creating a node. If the rename dialog is closed, the saved name remains unchanged.

Node name in italics

Indicates a non-empty name that is not marked as automatically generated. Distinguishes user-defined names in trees, maps, and graphs without changing the node's affiliation .

Result

After reloading, the hierarchy contains the new empty child node or the existing renamed node. These changes do not assign, remove, or change the inspection status of any parts.

Tips and Troubleshooting

  • The root cannot be renamed.

  • If "New" is not available, select an inner node or an empty leaf instead of a filled leaf.

  • An action error means that the result has been reloaded from the server; continue working with the updated hierarchy, not with a previous local view.
