1.3.4.1.2. Search methods in combination

There is no BEST method! The following matrix shows the added value of combined searches at a glance:

Full-text search Geometric search (3D) Sketch search (2D) Topology search
Full-text search

The full text search [Full-text search] alone may exclude suitable parts.

If the search term used is somewhat imprecise (perhaps deliberately), the combination with the sketch search (2D) [Sketch search (2D)] can significantly improve the results. If the search term used is somewhat imprecise (perhaps deliberately), the combination with the topology search [Topology search] can significantly improve the results.
Geometric search (3D)

The geometric search (3D) [Geometric search (3D)] alone overlooks important information from ERP/PDM (part status, preferred part, export restriction, stock, etc.).

If the geometric search (3D) [Geometric search (3D)] is executable, the 2D sketch search cannot provide any further information.

The inclusion of the topology search [Topology search] can be used as a filter if the result list is very long (e.g. further specification with boreholes=3).

Sketch search (2D) The sketch search (2D) [Sketch search (2D)] guides you through the results to suitable search terms. The sketch search (2D) [Sketch search (2D)] leads via the results to the appropriate reference part for the geometric search (3D) [Geometric search (3D)]. The combination of sketch search (2D) [Sketch search (2D)] + topology search [Topology search] leads to more precise results.
Topology search The topology search [Topology search] guides you through the results to suitable search terms. The topology search [Topology search] guides you through the results to the appropriate reference part for the geometric 3D search. Topology search + sketch search (2D) [Sketch search (2D)] lead to more precise results.

Example: Geometric search (3D) + full text search [Full-text search]: Geometric and textual finding cannot be played off against each other, but form a unit. Even if a part has already been found on the basis of geometric analyses, it is often only the inclusion of textual information that will lead to a clear decision as to which is the correct component.

Example sketch search (2D) [Sketch search (2D)] + topology search [Topology search]: The sketch provides the shape, the topology search the required size.

A simple sketch combined with a topological size indication leads to good results.
